She departed this life on Sunday, June 20, 2010. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Sycamore Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W. A. Alsup. For many years she was a faithful member of Cedar Grove Primitive Baptist Church and then Israelite Primitive Baptist Church. Later she united with Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she was a faithful Deaconess and member of the Caring and Sharing Ladies. She was also an active member of the Women’s Missionary Department of the Smithfork District Association and Venus Chapter #61, Order of Eastern Star until her health failed. For a number of years she was employed by the City of Murfreesboro as a Mother Patrol at Bradley Elementary School, but later found a job that she loved dearly when she became a bus driver and drove buses 71 and 580 for the Murfreesboro City School System. She watched over each and every child on her bus like a mother. After many years she retired, but continued to stay in touch with the many bus drivers and children who rode her bus. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband, James Simmons; one son, Robert H. “Bobby” Malone; one step-son, Jimmy R. Simmons; devoted niece and play-daughter, Alma E. (Edward) Blackman; sisters, Martha F. Watkins and Christine Wade; grandchildren, LaKale, LaNae, and Robert H. “BJ” Malone; six step-grandchildren; devoted great-nieces, Regina (Isiah) Hughes and Robin Blackman; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
