Obituary:
Annie Rachael Garner was born February 22, 1915, in Rutherford County, to  the late Tom and JoAnna Caruthers.  She departed this life on Wednesday,  June 1, 2005, after an extended illness.

Annie Rachael Garner attended Webb Chapel School in Murfreesboro, TN.   She was married to Earlie Lee Garner on July 18, 1934, and remained united for  57years, until death separated them in 1991.  To this union one son was  born, Willie Lee Garner, currently a resident of Nashville, TN.  She was  retired from Middle Tennessee State University, after 15 years of service.

Annie Rachel was a member of Little Bethel AME Church during her early  years, where she served on the mother's board.  She later joined Stones  River Primitive Baptist Church in 1968, where she also served on the mother's  board.  She was a faithful member, until her health began to fail.

Mrs. Garner's son, Willie, fondly remembers how on his first day of school,  he learned a bad word.  He didn't know he was not supposed to say it, so he  used it at home.  He said his mother got out "Mr. Make-Um Do Rght", (a long  switch from the corner) and went up and down his back.  So, needless to  say, he never used that word again.

Willie said his mother was a very head strong lady.  She wanted to be  the boss on everything and had to always have the last word.  She loved to  eat all kinds of pork and loved to dress.  She had every color suit you can  imagine and with all of them, she wore a "bug-like" pen on her shoulder and at  the bottom of her skirt.

Annie Rachel is survived by her son, Willie Lee Garner of Nashville,TN;  daughter-in-law, Aleyne Wilson Garner of Nashville,TN; two grandchildren, Linda  Garner and Cassandra DeHart; five great grandchildren; several great-great  grandchildren; one brother, Roy Caruthers of Murfreesboro, TN; three  sisters-in-law, Margaret Garner and Addie B. Caruthers, both of Murfreesboro, TN  and Lula Garner Waller of Oakland, CA; a devoted niece, Anna Mae Gregory; and a  host of other relatives and friends.  Special thanks to Dr. Robert Crowder,  Dr. Warren Patterson, Dr. Rowland Hawkins, Dr. Alfred Callahan and Baptist Home  Health Alive Hospice Care.
